Workshop on Micro Irrigation

The Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC) of the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow organized a one-day Workshop on Micro Irrigation to enlighten farmers and officers about the utility of micro irrigation/drip irrigation in view of the depleting water resources on February 4, 2017. The Workshop was presided over by Dr. Shailendra Rajan, Director, ICAR-CISH, Lucknow who remarked that there are ample possibilities to increase agricultural production and productivity with the help of micro irrigation in spite of water scarcity. Dr. K.M Tiwari, Professor, IIT Khadakpur and a resource person of the Workshop, talked about the various components of micro irrigation including traditional irrigation and suggested how micro irrigation facilities are better than the traditional ones. Er. Ravindra Verma of the Jain Irrigation dealt with the component of micro irrigation and described about the their cost effectiveness.

On this occasion, Dr. N.L.M Tripathi, Nodal Officer, Horticulture and food Processing Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh expatiated upon the flagship programme titled per drop more crop of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Convener of the Workshop, Dr. V.K. Singh Principal Scientist and Principal investigator, PFDC, in his speech, informed that in spite of water scarcity in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, farmers of both the states have been successful in increasing production and productivity by dint of using micro irrigation facilities. The Workshop was attended by all Heads of the Divisions, Scientists, Officers and 25 farmers of the nearby areas.
